Double concrete fence base job in Golborne, Wigan

In the world of garden fences often more really does equal more.  In this instance, it was most certainly the case.

This family home in Golborne, Wigan had a fence installed a long time ago, by someone who didn't quite understand the perils of fence installation.

As you can see from the before picture the fence that needed replacing was timber right to the floor.  This all very well and good when the land is flat, free of water and the fence isn't quite as tall, plus the area doesn't suffer from any wind damage.

In many ways a fence on to a simple piece of timber like this old fence had been installed is almost never the right way of doing things.  If nothing else the land moves over the years and a once true fence starts to lean.

The answer to this problem especially in many areas of Wigan is to install a fence on double-height concrete bases.

The additional weight in the extra-base ensures a firm foundation for the fence to sit on and also helps brace the upright concrete posts.
