Featherboard fencing – a much better fence panel
You rarely see Featherboard fencing in some of the big DIY sheds. Usually, you'll see cheap and flimsy waney lap fence panels that although they are easy to carry because they are made of thin timber, they are a lot weaker than their superior featherboard fence cousin.
A featherboard fence is a totally different fence panel than a waney lap panel, in short, these are the following distinct differences -
- Waney lap is made from thin strips of timber so more prone to cracking and snapping in the wind.
- There is less timber full stop in a waney lap fence panel from the frame to the braces they are a poorer product.
In addition, a featherboard fencing panel offers the following additional benefits.
- Privacy: Featherboard fencing, also known as feather edge or closeboard fencing, offers privacy by obstructing the view into your property with its overlapping vertical boards.
- Security: The solid construction of featherboard fencing enhances security and deters intruders.
- Durability: Featherboard fencing is typically constructed using sturdy materials such as pressure-treated timber or composite materials, offering longevity and resistance to weathering.
- Customisable: This type of fencing can be customised in terms of height, width, and colour to suit your preferences and complement the aesthetics of your property.
- Strength: The overlapping design of featherboard fencing provides added strength and stability, making it suitable for areas prone to high winds or other environmental factors.
- Versatility: Featherboard fencing can be installed on various terrains and can accommodate sloping or uneven ground, making it a versatile option for different landscapes.
- Low maintenance: Depending on the materials used, featherboard fencing often requires minimal maintenance, such as occasional cleaning or staining, to maintain its appearance and structural integrity.
- Property value: Installing featherboard fencing can enhance the overall value and appeal of your property, as it adds a finished look and serves practical purposes such as privacy and security.
All in all a feather board fence is hands down better than a waney lap fence in almost every way.
We handbuild all our own feather board fence panels here in Wigan to standards honed over many years in the fencing and gates trade, you'll need to go a long way to find fence panels with the weight of timber, strength and durability an Advanced Fencing panel has.
Do we still provide waney lap fence panels?
The simple answer to this question is yes of course we do. However, our waney lap fence panels are a much superior product to the type of panel you'll find in a DIY 'shed'.
In order to keep costs down, DIY sheds make sure all panels are as dry as possible prior to shipping from goodness knows where. Anyone will tell you dry timber will crack much quicker and easier than timber that hasn't been allowed to dry out.
Our waney lap panels have been made locally using FSC-certified timber, with the right moisture content with boards cut to a good thickness to ensure better strength and durability.
Advanced Fencing and Gates, Wigan do not sell kitchens?
It's an obvious statement I know, but if you specialise in providing one great service you are experts.
That's what makes every fence panel, every post, every gate different to products sold by DIY centres. DIY centres are experts in shifting anything related to DIY, they aren't experts in fencing and gates, kitchens, plumbing, decorating or anything for that matter.
So they next time you need a fence choose a local fencing expert, the next time you need a kitchen choose a local kitchen expert.
